| The hint of slightly less cold weather was enough to see me head for Throop and the Dorset Stour again today. I'd also agreed to meet Twiddler down there as well and our target was hopefully the big chub. We'd agreed we'd meet at about 11ish as these chub tend to feed late in the day, a relatively short afternoon session was to be the order of the day. But even though I got to bed at 2am on Sat night ![]() I fed a few maggots several times whilst setting up and had a cup of coffee before deciding I'd better text Twiddles to tell her I was already down there and fishing! First trot down I hooked and lost a decent fish . It then became very hectic as I had the greedy chub queuing up in front of me and succeeded in netting 5 more with the best two just nudging past the 6lb mark.![]() ![]() Midway through this chub fest, I sent another text telling her ladyship to "get her **** down here quick!". She finally turned up just in time to take a snap of chub no: 6!! ![]() We then attempted to share the swim but the chub decided to do a very effective vanishing act just as quickly as they had arrived. Maybe I overfed them, maybe it was the bright sun finally breaking through combining with the low clear water conditions or just maybe it was down to you know who's arrival!! ![]() Two or three hours passed and not a bite was to be had. But then oddly, one trot through the float shot away, but I "pricked" the fish! Next trot down, I hooked a nice 5lb chub immediately followed by another about 5-08. Three bites, two good chub and then nothing! We fished through to almost dark but nothing happened - unusal for the Stour as a suicidal chub usually turns up right at the end. ![]() __________________ "I'm playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order" Eric Morcambe |

| Re: Stour Chub Oblige Again To tell the truth, I was lousy tring to cast with the centrepin....Neil tried his best to teach me but I'm a lousy student and just couldn't get the float out far enough. Hence I changed over to a maggot feeder but despite being able to put the feeder where Neil caught the chub from, I couldn't buy a bite. Never mind, all I can do is practise this bl**dy wallis cast...I'll get the hang of it, even if it kills me ![]() __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |
