The phone conversation went something like this....
Bananna Steve - Where do you fancy going fishing Saturday?

Me - Don't mind mate, forecast says it's going to be very cold though...

Bananna Steve - Nah, just heard the forecast, it's going to warm up on saturday. Going to be at least 10 degree's

Little did I realise he meant minus 10

We eventually decided to fish the river Nadder at Tisbury to try for a few species points. Steve picked me up at about half eight & we were at the riverside by about half nine. It was cold when we set off & even colder when we arrived at the waters edge.

After a quick look at the river, we selected a couple of pegs near the road bridge & both set up stick float & feeder rigs. Baits were Bread & Maggot. The water was crystal clear from the off & it was obvious that things were not going to be easy. Anyway to cut a long story short, we fished for about 2 - 3 hours without a bite. We both swapped between the stick float & open ended swimfeeder baited with breadflake or Maggot without much success. Then I heard a shout from Steve to say that he had caught a small chublet on the stickfloat trotted maggot. This was followed soon afterwards with a small brown trout that earned Steve another 1.5 points for the species hunt. Not l afterwards I had a bite that produced a small Grayling that was worth another 1.5 points for team Moonraker.

As far as fih went, that was it for the day. There was plenty of birdlife to watch including Snipe, Heron, Tree creeper & long tailed tit, but no more fish. About 1.30pm the cold got the better of us & we retired to a local pub for a warming bowl of Stilton & Broccoli soup, freshly baked bread & a couple of beers.

Not a lot to add to the post, apart from I nearly lost a John Dean Stick Float. These floats are my pride and joy and they are not made any more. I got caught in a snag on the far bank and my line snapped leavening the float wavering in the current. So I got of my dairyaire and fought my way through the undergrowth on the far bank and got me float back. I say “fought” it was just a gentle wonder round. But I got me float back. As for fish I caught a small chub of around 12ozs and a small brown Trout, A nice 1.5 points.

The brown trout i put down is not, i have looked on the Internet, and i am certain that it is a Salmon Parr.
