| Mersey fishing for Barbel I'm off to the Mersey just outside Didsbury near Parrs wood this afternoon. It's quite shallow (2-3ft) and flowing at a fast walking pace. Does anyone have any advice on what hookbait to use for Barbel here? I'll be using a quiver tip and 8lb line. Many thanks Chappa |

| Re: Mersey fishing for Barbel How did you get on? A bit cold for barbel fishing for my liking. I stick to Chub and Roach on small streams & rivers in this weather. should be fine on Sunday when the temperature is expected to rise though. But I do fish narrow shallowish streams for Barbel when the temperature passes 8 to 10 degrees. I dont live anywhere near the Mersey so am not clued up on it but In the winter I use smelly non-oily baits like chillie, Lamprey or crab flavoured meat or pellets. If I am using pellets I usually coat them in a soft paste which allows the smell to drift downstream and draw any barbel up to the bait. well thats the theory anyway. Hope you did well. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
