| An afternoon on the Brue JP reported that the Brue was looking good, and despite planning on being on the bank early, we made it before 1pm, whichwas quite good with past history in mind. We had a look at the water from the Bridge, between Glastonbury and Street, there was morte colour, but not muddy than we had seen before, and the flow was up, and we judged the level to be about 4-6 inches up on last time. We thought great. There was quite a strong breeze, which blew fine drizzle around, which was bad for moi, as it made wearing specs a nightmare. We dropped into a section which we had talked about, to find the wind funneling up, we both managed a couple of fish, JP trotting, my Sigma Wand performed well with a lovely Roach about 10oz and a chublet of the same size. These fish came in the first 10 mins, then nothing and after an hour or so we decided to move to a less windy spot. That was about 60yds upsteam. Again we managed a couple of fish then things dried up, we wondered of the pike were active, but some perserverancfe worked, changing hook size and hook length worked. JP lost a decent chub trotting. I managed to get a respectable net of roach and chub, with one dace too. Sadly no Gudgeon ro Ruffe. JP hooked anothe rchub, and was chuffed to find his hook length from earlier. The drizzle became rain, and darkness fell very quickly. I chopped a worm in half, hooked both tipped with a red maggie and chucked it up stream. I had a few bite uptreaming, but only a couple of roach and a tiny chub to show for it. I was putting everytihng away, and notice that the tip was shaking now and then, just like minnows do when the bait is too big for them, so I ignored them. When the tip did jump back, I struck into what I thought was either a chublet of small roach, when the rod suddenly arched over and I had to back wind. Calling accross to JP I suggested that a pike had taken whatever was on the line, at this stage the ligt was almost all gone, but I wa sable to see a swirl and sticj the net under it. Turned out to be a 4+ chub, which ended the day very nicley. All in all we had more than 10lb in the net, and feel that we did well, on a day when the river was being a bit funnny. I would like to post some pics, but my phonecam is being a bitr wobbly, I an seem to download. |
