Angler's Paradise, Devon

Hi all

This is a very belated post but i'll do my best to remember the details;

Angler's Paradie, 17th-24th August 2008

After a three day car journey, a ferry crossing and two over night stays we finally reached our destination "Angler's Paradise". We where greeted by Zyggy and his wife Rose, they give my mum and dad a glass of his famous fuits of the forest wine. We were then showed around our apartment and it was absolutley stunning. It had a fully fitted kitchen, a large living area with a full leather suite and a HD televison, three bathrooms and two bedrooms. Also and outdoor tackle shed.

Wishing Well Lodge

The first night we were there we only had about an hour and a half fishing time after we got settled in. We decided to head off to the "Float fishing lake" to see how we got on. We were not dissapointed and straight away we were into fish they where all mainly small orfe but after we got down through them there was some lovely looking fish.

Dad's Golden Tench

My Golden Tench

Dad's Gold Fish

We caught plenty of other small goldfish, orfe and golden tench until we had to return home due to poor light. Day two began on "Easy Access Lake" it was very slow going but we did manage a few fish on float fished maggot at around 3ft depth.

My First Mirror Carp Of the Trip

My Orfe

After lunch we headed down to the beginners carp lake were the fishng was also going very slow. We fished for about three hours before our first fish and it fell to float fished spam in the margins it was caught no more than 6 inches from the bank.

Brother's Mirror

My brother again was succesful in the margins about 15mins later.

There was a trend starting to appear that every 15mins or there abouts we would get bites in the margins. We beleived that the fish were just circling the lake constantly at the margins. I decided to test this theory and it was not long i was getting bites and it was not long after them that i landed the biggest fish of the day at 9lbs

9lb Common

There were two more fish caught before we had to leave so not to be late for Zyg and Rose's barbaque. A lovely Golden tench and a another nice common carp which were also caught on float fished Spam in the margins.

Day three we only fished the evening to please the mother. We headed back for the beginners carp lake and we were not dissapointed, I landed three lovely small carp around 4/5lbs, again all caught in the margins on float fished spam.

As you can see we fished the whole way up to dusk.

Day 4 was the only day i regretted, Stupidly we targeted catfish in "Octopussy lake" and we did not have a single bite all day. Our plan of attack was legered halibut pellets popped up with two pieces of cork. All day we sat with out a touch, this not being enough we were foolish enough to try the whole way through the night. We only got 5 beebs on the alarms at around 2 am and that was it.

Day 5 We planned to fish easy access but unfortunately there was no free pegs due to one of the banks being closed due to bad weather so we again headed back to the "beginners carp lake" where again we had great fun. I had one rod ledgered in the margins with 2 hair-rigged halibuts and another rod floatfished in the margins with spam. I had a number of lovely carp but my brother and dad seemed to be struggling a little.

My brother and dad had to come to the "expert" for advice . I soon got them catching fish after fish .

I ended the days catch by landing a pristine golden tench around 2lbs.

Day six was the last day we got fishing and we headed to magic lake to target a koi so agian we fished the margins with spam and oce again we were not dissapointed. Landing fish after fish again they were not the koi that we after but they where lovely common and mirror carp.

.

The last fish of the trip was atlast a koi a lovely orange and black colour, it might not have been the biggest fish of the trip but it was one of the most beutiful.

It was the best week of my life i can say that in all seriousness and i would return and any chance i got. It seemed as if i caught more fish on this trip than i have in the rest of my life.

If anybody wants a fishing holiday that guarantees fish and lots of fun I would recommed this place to everbody.

Re: Angler's Paradise, Devon

Well done on what looks like a fun week.

I never have regrets about fishing, if you had not tried the catfish lake you would not have known they were not biting, fishing can be like that. I think a blank day, that is hard work, makes you appreciate the catching days more.
