Friendly Competition At Gold Valley

The Fishing Forum was well represented at an annual friendly/social match organised via another website at Gold Valley. Not only that, but on quite a hard day, we did pretty well and showed the way home to most of the rest of the field.

Even "Commercials" can look very good in a certain light:

This match is a team event with the two sides decided on the basis of age! A somewhat flexible selection process saw me in "THE ACES" (possibly all over 50) and Mithrandir and Twiddler in THE CHAVS (maybe all under 50)

Pegged alternatively on Syndicate Lake, battle commenced:

With both "Carp" and "Silvers" counting seperately and in aggregate towards the outcome, the aim was to weigh in on both sections, ensuring high points scoring in both.

Suffice to say, out of the 20+ attendees we did well:

Twiddler ended up 5th in the Carp Section with 14lb 15oz and added 1lb of Silvers to total 27 points.

Mithrandir, just two pegs away, put 19lb 10oz of Carp on the scales for 2nd place and added 1lb 02oz of Silvers to total 32 points.

Yours truly took advantage of local knowledge and a large slice of good fortune (3 carp and 2 bream in the last hour or so!) [plus the fact that I organised the event!

] to take top weight in the Carp Section with 40lb 08oz and 2nd place in the Silvers with 7lb 04oz for a total of 43 points. That meant I retained the trophy!

ps: I was on the WINNING TEAM....Twiddler and Mithrandir WERE NOT.

Great event, as always, thanks for organising it, but I was originally an Ace to fish on the opposing team to Claudia, but the last 2 years I have been demoted to Chav, as there are some old gits fishing now LOL.

Was a good result on what was fishing very slowly, that wind seemed to kill the action.

I say it was ALL a fix.....my swim was sabotaged...I had a huge snag 3ft in front of me.....bet that was the 'catvirginstill's' doing

...then he made me believe his 'local knowledge' would help me by giving me some tips, like fishing the pole no more than 5 metres out...yeah right, he knew darn well I would get snagged up there.......to top it all up, he send Cakey around to distract me........It was all a fix and sabotaged...I demand a re-match!!!!

On the serious side, thanks for organising this year match again, it was great fun....in fact, yesterday I really enjoyed fishing syndicate lake for the first time in ages.....we had to work hard for the fish and not as per ususal getting a fish per cast.

Roll on next years match....

P.S the new purchase was a well needed bib and braces....I only got a very thick one for winter, which isn't comfortable enough when I fish the pole
