Pike Fishing saturday the Report

I picked Ian up at 8:30am to find him full of a cold {man flu}. Off we set to Gloucester to meet up with Rich for day’s pike/Perch/Zander fishing.
We arrived at the Pilot Inn stretch of the Canal at 10:30 all three of us were raring to go. We headed for the turning bay an area that is renowned for the Zander and Pike. On setting up the dead bait I brought was a little bit too big for Zander as the dead roach were an average of 6” plus in length, Ian recommended that we should have had smaller bait. But persevering I choose the smallest roach in the pack and a sprat. Casting into the bay with the sprat and the roach went in front of me the waiting game began.
Ian wanted some live bait for the Zander and pike, so out came the whip {ohh ere Mrs.} fishing to edge of a set lilies on the inside margin, Ian managed to catch a few perch.

And with Rich supplying the whip rig managed to pose with the best fish of the day.

As you can see we didn’t fair to well, none of us had any Zander or Pike, Ian was the only one to out fish us with that fine specimen of a Perch. However whilst I was talking to Rich in his peg, Ian called out that my bite alarm was going crazy, as I ran towards my rods I noticed that my bobbins weren’t moving then I realized that it wasn’t my bite alarm but Ian’s , by the time he realized the alarm stopped. Over all we had a great day even though we didn’t catch, it was nice to get out. And we finished the day with a nice Chinese takeaway.

Errm, far be it from me to to question the combined skills on the bank this weekend, but are m'lords absolutely sure this is the location for a Zander meet????

I think you answered your own question as to why we should have a Zander meet here Baggie. The Pubs only a two minute walk away...
Except for the fact that I had a nasty dose of Manflu "which also affected my hearing when my bite alarms did eventually go off" It was quite a pleasent day. We had a nice sheltered spot to fish & the sun stayed out all day. Also, some of us did'nt blank Not going to brag by saying who though...

Really great days fishing for me as it was brill meeting up with the guys . The fish didi not turn up not for the want of trying.

I love fishing but to go fishing with freinds is tops
