| 1st double with a pole I took a friends 5yr old on his first fishing trip yesterday. We had a great time catching little roach and rudd and a few little carp. There's an angler for the future. I had quite a few maggies leftover, so I popped down to the lake at Crockerton, about which Banana Steve, Greenheart and I rave about.....and justly so. I chose to use the pole, which I had re-elasticated after the beast from Berkley ha dsmashed it up. I settled into no 5, a swim I had not had fished for a few years, whilst I fish the lake on a regular basis, I had always dropped into other swims. Today i had planned to fish no 7, but as I get older, I am better at listening to my internal 'ear', which heard the spoken words of the lake, and told me to fish no 5. As silverfish were on the menu, I used one of the lighter rigs in my collection, 3lb mainline, with a 2lb hook length and an 18 maggot hook. I missed the first bite, then began to catch little perch, no sign of the silvers which i had come for. Bite no 6 was something different, The floast dipped a bit, and stayed dipped, not quite going completely under, so I lifted into a better fish, I thought it was a bream or a small tench, as it did not do much for a moment, thankfully I had the other sections to hand, as it soon woke up, and all 11m metres were needed. The fight took about 20 mins, and was quite a bttle. I also attratced a crowd, a couple of lads carping on pegs 1 and 2, and a couple of my nfellow committee members who were having a look at the lake. This will have a good resuolt for me, at the next meeting, tals of the battle etc. Here's a pic, sadly it does not do justice for the depth of the fish. And I should also admit to shaking a bit at the end.      |
