| River Brue at Street Joining Glaston Manor had been discussed, whilst we fishe dother water, but with winter comming on, and some of our favourite water likely to be out of sorts, JP and I joined up on Sunday. The club has approx 14 miles of the River, plus lakes and an involvement with the Somerset levels association, basically lots of water. The river itself, I had seen from teh road, and it looked a lot like the River eden in East Kent, a small winding stream, approx 10yds wide. I had heard that there were quite a few flood control weirs dotted about the river. I was quite shocked by the change, I should not have been by looking at the height of the weir. We began fishing abouve this weir, in water that looked to be about 3-4 feet deep, it turned out to be just under 9 foot! Very clear, a small silver fish flashing on the strike could clearly be seen. This did not fill us with a huge amount of confidence, but we pressed on. Small silvers, roach, rudd, dace and small chub came quickly to float fished maggies, I had a couple of small perch on a lead, but it wasafter the sun went in that the better fish showed themselves. Pictured are a rudd and a perch from above the weir. ![]() ![]() W felt we should explored a bit, and the weir pool called us, so we tried it, very shallow, but a straight lead with maggies produced lots of chublets and gudgeon. Some fish spotting with polaroids did not reveal anything begger than 5oz, but we may well have missed a few. Heres the weir pool as the sun was beginning to set. ![]() We headed down stream, to try some of the faster, and shallower glides we had looked at earlier, but rejected due to bright lights, or long shadows we would have cast on the water. My choice, (looking upstream, tor in background). ![]() I trooted, and had plenty of roach, dace and chublets, with the odd nice perch to abou 8oz thrown in. JP used a tip, and picked up some Ruffe, gudgeon and chublets. All in all a very nice day out, a new river to explore, one that is a good winter fishery. Also on the plus side were some very attractive ladies out, either with their dogs, or out for a jog, esp the brunette in the skintight outfit, and no sports bra!! ![]() |

| Re: River Brue at Street The Eden is a lovely small strea, I much prefered it in Autumn/winter, really needed to sort out your watercraft. I think my favourite sections were the fields around crowhurst, were it was more the eden brook, and Chiddingstone Castle. I grew up(!!) on the Surrey/Kent border, but have been resident in west wilts for the last 10 yeras, to be honest I prefer west wilts. Ian, I don't know about day tickets, but hopefully, we will have a pair of exchange tickets with GMAA, so yuo can fish the river that way. JP had a very big ruffe, could have gone 4oz, which would probably win a prize in the weeklies.... |
