| Lazy Sunday afternoon I took my 'superb' BerryBait back to Berkley for a lazy afternoon in the sun. However, the fish were feeding with enthusiasm. Last time, I had a bite within 10 seconds of the bait going in, due to the super bright conditions, and near millpond like clam, I had to wait at least 30 secs this time. The only downside is that the average side of the fish were smaller, some of them as small as 2oz, but the average siz e I would say was about 10oz. Ian, (Greenheart) showed up with a friend and some beer....teh Berkely Carp decided to behave themselves and a decent wildie of 6.10.0 put in an appearance, sadly it was smaller than the ones I'd lost earlier in the week, sorry last week. I still have to repair the pole, I was using a lovely rod, hand made in the 1980's, for the Sussex streams, Its the nicest peice of fishing equipment I have ever held. Greenheart was alowed to hold it for a mo and will (hopefully) testify to what a beauty it is to hold. I used an old 'pin to a 4lb hookliink and a size 10 hook, a simple waggler and a couple of no 6 shot 10 inches form the hook, and fished 2-3" overdepth to counter any drag. ![]() After I put a rod in front of him, (with obliging carp topping) in front of Ian, he had a quick go for the topping fish with some crust. ![]() A few moments later ![]() Ian and co, had to go, and the fishing began to ease off a bit, my fault really as I had neglected to carry on feeding the swim, I stayed on for a bit, catching a few more wildies around 2lb, mbiggets just over 3, but too many under 8oz. Most importantly my berry baits worked very well, and some of the serious carp boys had been outfished by may baits. |

| It really was nice to spend a couple of hours sitting in the sunshine & watching someone else fish Matt. I am going to put in a bit of time at Berkley before the season's out. I can vouch for elderberry Fullcreels bait. It really works well, but the recipe needs a little modification to enable it to stay on the hook better. I've also just noticed the scale damage on the Carp that I caught. In the photo, it looks like a pike has bitten it. Interesting, as there are not supposed to be any Pike in Berkley... Nice report Matt.Oh, & I would like to publicly deny ever having held Fullcreels Rod..... ![]() __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... | Re: Lazy Sunday afternoon That rods a joy to handle.... Some years back, Berkley was drained and redug as it had gotten very shallow. I understand that the EA restocked it with lots of small carp, and the original wildies which had been tanked. I guess that the damage was suffered when the carp was a tiny one. Maybe a baby pike. I have seen a few marked carp, and the marks or scarrings all look to have been healed for a few years, I did see or should I say count almost 60 Canadian Geese, anyone got any recipies? |
