Berry Baits - The Result

I did a little post a few days ago about my plans to make some baits using elderberries and others. I did so, and made a real mess in the kitchen, which with any luck I'll clear up before the end of the month.
Heres a few pics of the processs. The recipe is, elder berries, Norfolkboys boilie/paste mix, many respects, a few drops of hemp oil,(nutraabaits) and some condensed milk flavour, (richworth's)

We actually tried the Avon at Claverton on Saturday, but the river was several feet up and storming through. We wrapped the paste around the hook bait, either boilies or pepperami, but the river was too much for us.
I had a few taps on it at Crockerton on Sunday, but the lake was in one of its moods, so it fell to Berkley lake to save us.
I set up the pole with a rig I use at Crockerotn, its worked very well for tench and carp, but I was planning on going for the roach. Berkley holds some wonderufl roachj by the way.
The paste was a bit too sticky, I need more practice making it, but first cast and within 10 secs the float sailed away, and I had a feisty baby carp about 10 oz. Next put in I lost a slightly bigger carp, and the paste was being problematic, staying on the hook. I had some bread with me and decided to wrap a small roll of the paste in a slice, this worked wonders.

I had a fish a chuck for an hour and a half, bigest two are pictured below. All carp, great fun, but as I mentioned I had hoperd to pick up some fine autumn roach. Oh well, such is life.

I was brocken by a bigger fish, that took out a 4lb hook length like a knife through butter, then a few minutes later, I lost my favourite pole float, as a beast that acted like a 3lb suddenly shot of like a rocket, dammed thing broke the elastic... must habe been damged, does any one know what the breaking point is of no 12 elastic, (new this march) is?

Re: Berry Baits - The Result

Hi Matt well done on catching with home made bait. as with the elastic, if the elastic was left in the shop exposed to sunlight it will weaken the elastic. when i buy elastic from a shop i take the one underneath the front one. as normally the front one is the exposed one, and also ask when the elastic was stocked in the shop, because they can be the shop for quite a while and time will weaken the elastic as well.
