Twynersh Complex, 26-27/07/08

Before I start, I'm not best pleased with my Sony Ericsson phone I took loads of pictures and when I got back to upload them, nothing. Memory card has a small crack in it which has rendered it useless.

Anyway, got to Twynersh at 15.00 on Saturday. It was blazing hot! The 2 baliffs who work there were spot on, made me feel welcome and gave me some tips on which lake to fish as a first-timer there. I chose Match Lake, it has nothing to do with match fishing, just a name. It has loads of bream, but more importantly carp to 25lbs.

After setting up everything, I got the bivvy out. A little tip here for myself: When you last use your bivvy and it's wet don't pack it straight away and leave it for 12 months. It stank like an old sock.

The methods I was using were maggots (using clip and PVA stocking full of them) on one rod and Richworth KG1 boilies on the other. It was a pretty quiet for the evening with a couple of bleeps which came to nothing. I dropped off to sleep at about 01.00 and could heara few alarms going off around the lake.

First fish came at 03.20, a lovely common carp of 12lbs which went for the maggots. Second fish came at about 04.30, again the maggot rod. Even better, another common of just under 15lbs. Nothing was tempted by the boilies. Anyway I fished on until about 11am, when I decided it was just too hot and I left for home. So, a good session spoilt a little by my poxy cameraphone.

Interesting note. The baliffs were saying that they've noticed a definite drop-off in the number of anglers fishing lately, largely due to the rising cost of fuel etc. Same for me, I probably can't get out again for a weeks now. it's starting to become an expensive hobby which is a shame, because I throughly enjoyed this session.

Thanks mate! With regards to the bivvy situation, I just let it sit outside in the garden to air out after giving it a wash with cold water. Smells fresh now although a couple of the metal parts have a touch of rust on them. Must take more care

Never mind the pictures Rob, main thing is that you managed to get out and catch a few, after a long break.

Welcome back

Welcome back to the Forum Rob. Nice to hear you got off to a good start. I always use the same excuse as you when people tell me my Bivvy smells of old socks.... Not sure they always believe me though... I know how you feel with the Camera. I lost all the pics of my Big Game fishing trip in Cuba when the Camera card corrupted
