Going Carp Fishing after Holiday

Hi everyone

I was thinking what fish to target next
and i thought i would try Carp Fishing again

So I am getting The Bait List Done But Could anyone recommend any
Rigs and tell me what is best for them e.g . Hook Size , Line type and its Breaking Strain

I am very eager to go do this and my local reservoir stocks a few different Species of Carp Including Common , Crucian And Mirror Carp and i have heard it produces them well and it is regularly stocked

Also Can anyone recommend a Hook Size for smaller fish like Roach and Rudd

Any Info would Be very appreciated

Cheers

Craig W

Re: Going Carp Fishing after Holiday

Craig, hook size for roach and rudd can be anything from 20 to 16, it all depends on how shy they are. I'd start of with an 18 single red maggot, if you don't get any bites, go down to a size 20 or even 22.

For the carp, well there are so many different ways of fishing for them.
Line rating depends on the venue i.e is it snaggy, gravel or silty bottom, is it a heavily fished venue where the carp are wary....all these and more you will have to take in consideration when fishing for them.

Try to keep it simple to start off with, don't over complicate your rigs, start of with a running ledger (less resistance than a fixed ledger).....match your hook size to the bait you will be using.

Re: Going Carp Fishing after Holiday

For the carp if you are using baits such as boiles then you would need to use a hair rig. You can see what i mean on this site http://www.course-fishing.freeuk.com/hair-rig.html It provides a clean hook so when hooking the fish you dont have to strike through your bait so inturn you are more likely to hook the fish. I would have to agree twiddler regarding the other info.

Tightlines,

BW
