An evening at Crockerton

As I had an early finish at work yesterday, I decided to grab the Carp gear & pop over to Crockerton for the evening. A mate of mine Dave, who's just joined the club came along too. Dave set up his new carp rod & alarm & baited with luncheon meat. This was cast tight into some overhanging bushes at one side of his swim that normally have a few resident carp. He also set up a float rod, also baited with luncheon meat & fished it about 5m out from the bank. I set up 2 carp rods, both baited with 15mm Boilies. I cast one under the nearside bushes & the other across to the island. The problem with packing one's tackle in a hurry, is that one tends to forget the odd item of fishing gear. In my case it was my licence & my bait catapult. Dave also managed to forget his chair. Fortunately Dave had his unhooking mat to sit on & the Bailiff did'nt ask for my licence. As for the Catapult, a quick phonecall to Bananna Steve resulted in him turning up 30 minutes later complete with catapult. (Thanks mate) The fishing for me started slowly, but Dave was getting the odd fish on floatfished meat, including a nice 1.5lb Perch. I was having one of those days where if it could go wrong it did. My swim was a bit of a birdcage, with low overhanging trees, which I managed to tangle up with several times. However I loosefed a few boilies & started to get a few runs. Sadly this only happened when I turned my back on my rods or was tying up some PVA stringers. Needless to say I missed most of them & the two fish that I did hook & which felt like good sized Carp managed to shed the hook.

Eventually I hooked & stayed connected to a nice Common Carp of around 10 - 12lb. This proceeded to run through my other line, almost dragging my other rod into the water & creating a right tangle. However with a little help from Dave, the fish was eventually netted. I would have posted a picture of the fish on the Forum, but you've guessed it. I forgot my camera....
