An Evening on my Local River

hi all,

I was able to persuade My Dad to take me to a small stretch of my local river. I decided to freeline a lobworm insearch of Trout, not my usual target but fish atleast. I had heard of trout being caught from here but i had not fished this stretch myself. I was hoping to back this up by catching one.


Stretch of River

The weather had finally cleared for the first time the whole weekend and after it had poured the whole day the river was quite high so as i expected there was a good flow of water.


Upstream

With the first cast i hooked a small trout around 4/5oz only to lose it as i lifted it out of the water. Each cast i was feeling small knocks on the worm and after about ten minutes i landed a small roach.

I moved around the bend of the river and let the freelined worm swing through with the current i did this for about 20mins with no luck.


Downstream

I decided that was enough, as it is such a small river it is unlikely to hook anything after fishing for more than 20 minutes without a bite. So we headed on to find another suitable stretch but we never stopped to fish again but we saw some nice spots for the next time.

Maybe next time i will catch one of the trout but atleast i did not blank

Thats a good looking little river. Any fish from such a venue is a triumph, mobility is probably the key and a little loose feeding every now and then. Feed the swim, rest the swim, move on, go back - a great way to go fishing.

Thanks for all the replies, I hope to go out at the weekend again if im able to get my dad to take me and the weather holds up. I checked out a few more deep swims on downstream a little further, I may try there and the few other swims which i come across on sunday night, i hope they can produce the goods. I let you all know how i get on.

Beautiful little river BW. Sometimes such small waters can throw up some suprisingly large fish. Looking forward to hearing how you get on next time. Good luck....
