Re: An Evening on my Local River Smashing little river, looking forward to hearing about your subsequent visits. Sometimes on these small rivers the smallest hidden features can hold some suprisingly large fish; whereas the other swims may look good for fishing it's the features where the fish usually are. (eg. on the outside of bends, changes in depth no matter how small, undercut banks, downstream of snags, under or near weed rafts __________________ My Web Site (The Average Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)

Re: An Evening on my Local River Thanks for all that information i'll take that into consideration at the weekend. Just heard that in years gone past there has been seatrout and salmon caught in the river. So i could land any thing from a roach to a salmon (I wish )BW __________________ WACCOE-MARCHING ON TOGETHER-WACCOE

Re: An Evening on my Local River I used to live in Helston in Cornwall and we had a small trout stream like yours, and I used to fish it by just putting the tail of a small lobworm on a size 16 hook with a couple of dust shot on the line and letting the current carry it downstream about 30 feet then slowly wind it in again, I would often get a small brown trout taking the bait as I slowly wound in, they were just big enough to eat (about 10") and I always had one or two in the freezer. I also used to catch a few dace in the river. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)

Re: An Evening on my Local River Sounds similiar to the river i fish This river is very diferent at differnet stretches which is great, at some places near the lough which it leaves you could catch Roach all day long and then come 3 miles down stream and you have the chance to catch brown trout roach and maybe a seatrout and then another 3 miles on downstream you enter the sea and at the esturine section you could catch anything from seatrout to mullet which really is great all on my doorstep. Not to mention the lough which it leaves which holds large pike, roach and some rainbow trout which were stocked nearly 40 years ago when it was owned by a club. On Sunday night when i lost the trout as i was about to grab it was caught on the retrieve like you suggested so i may give that a go again at the weekend. Cheers, BW __________________ WACCOE-MARCHING ON TOGETHER-WACCOE

Re: An Evening on my Local River Unfortunately i did not manage to get out this weekend due to it being the 12th of July celebrations and all the tackle shops were closed so i could not get any worms, i completely forgot about them. I was contemplating fly fishing but im a bit rusty when it comes to fluff chucking so decided to give it a miss. BW __________________ WACCOE-MARCHING ON TOGETHER-WACCOE

Re: An Evening on my Local River That's a super river, just like the ones i fish. If its trout you are after, invest in a pair of thigh waders, get in the river, and learn to use the upstream worm - you'll get lots of perch too. __________________ Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond
