| No Barbel, but a P.B Chub :-) We slunk down to the Avon at Claverton, we had decided to try the section below the Island. We had high hopes of getting some Barbel, neither of us had had one before. Thr river looked lovely, I'd say a touch more coloured than before. Although I was somewhat out of breath when we got to the bankside as the walk was quite long. Somehting we liked the idea of...meaning less people would fish that stretch. We started on a stretch between two very pacey areas, we thought we were going to be in for a red letter day, we had deep glide each. Sadly after a few hours we had no bites. We had been to the river a week before, and had been told that the river was a bit out of sorts. That seemed to be the case. We decided to head uptream, as it has looked a bit 'tasty' on Google Maps. We settled in the swim two down from the confluence below the island. We fed quite a bit of hemp, sat back and waited. For nearly two hours we sat bightless, a few small fish tapping on the boilies. However as the rain began I had a proper bite, struck with high hopes, as the rod hooped over, worked hard to keep something fiesty out of the visable snags. Not a barbel, but a ovely chub, I was taken aback when I saw it in the landing net, and out with the scales, 5.6.0, the picture I took on my 'phone was terrible, blurred (too dark I think). Beat my old P.B by 2.4.0 ![]() About 10 mins later I had another smaller chub, not weighed but about 3.8.0 The fish were on a spicy shellfish boilie, and the boilies were wrapped in a paste I had made the nigt before, which consisted of halibut powder, some crshed hemp and some hemp oil. This helped casting out, providing your not aiming for the horizon. We due for some rain, we need a bit, but once its been through the river mayube I'll get a 'bertie' on the bank. |
