| Crockerton Breamfest As I finished work early yesterday, I thought I'd pop over to pay Bananna Steve a visit at Crockerton. He had been bivvied up there for a couple of days Carp fishing. I'd spoken to Steve on the mobile & knew that the Carp were feeding well, but I wanted to try out my new 16m Pole. So I chucked my kit in the Car & was set up in the next swim to Steve by 3.30pm. I'd stopped off on the way to buy some Luncheon meat & Sweetcorn for bait, but when I arrived, Steve gave me a dodgy looking baitbox full of diced Luncheon meat that he'd had in his tackle box for a week or two. It was starting to smell a bit high, but Crockerton fish ain't too fussy. I set up a pole rig with 6lb line straight through to a size 14 barbless hook, loosefed a few bits of meat & placed my rig baited with a tiny peice of meat under an overhanging bush about 9 metres out in about 7ft of water. Immediately I was into a nice fish which turned out to be a roach of about a pound. I was really hoping for a Tench, to put my new pole through it's paces, but after the first roach, I started to catch a steady stream of good size Bream. This set the pattern for the next 4 hours. A bream almost every cast, along with the odd roach. Then just as I was about to pack up, I hooked something that made a determined dash for the snaggy tree roots. However the new Pole coped admirably & I soon had a nice Tench on the bank to round off a cracking evening. A nice bag that weighed in at 35lb on Steves Carp scales. Steve was also having some cracking sport with the Carp & judging by the sound of his bite alarms, he was getting some screaming takes. But that's another story, which i'm sure he will soon relate to the Forum once he's recovered. Right, got to sort my gear out now, as we're off to the River Avon tomorrow after a few species hunt points..... ![]() __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org |
