| Crockerton-Jewel of West Country Fishing Well, I have to admit there ither jewels, but the lake at crockerton is something special. After a very hot day at work, (I run a garden nursery, super hot in greenhouse's!), I slunk down to Crockerton for a couple of hours in the evening to cool off. Bait was some luncheon meat, and a few micor halibut pellets for loose feed. Meat was chopped into small pieces, with some extra small one for feeding with the halibut pellets. I set up my trusty pole, and fished no 7 under the tree to the left, at about 4-5metres. ![]() Apart from being nice to be in the cool, the bites came along pretty quick, first was a nice roach, one of many, all a good size. ![]() The the turbo powered tench showed themselves, and the 13 year old pole stood up well, as the new elastic I put in, ( always a bit nerve racking when you get a fish on new elastic). I had a couple of tench, and the tench in crockerton are very keen on scrapping. They must be on steroids... ![]() After about 3/4 an hour, the float dipped and as I lifted the pole, I soon realised that I was not into a tench, or if I was it would be a new pb. When it broake the surface, to splash JP who was next door I saw it to be one of the crockerton carp population, a hard fighting beastie that was more cantankerous than any of the tench. Still he asked for no quarter and recieved noe, making his way into the net after some serious struggles, but fun.![]() Jp managed to get into the action, but sadluy he was behind in the fish count, but the sneaky devil manage to bring in a new pb roach, a nice fish, as you can see in the pic below. ![]() All in all, a couple of hours on a pleasant evening let to about 30lb of fish, smalle dbeing a few ounces, the biggest being the carp, best of all were the tench, I had ten on the bank, lost none. My best tench trip there, might have top go again fri. Here's a thought, how about a forum meet at Crockerton, with Banana SDteve, Grenheart and myself as members, we could take a few guests, its a wonderufl lake, that holds some very good fish. |
