Re: 6 perch tonight on curry maggots Sir????? Sir?????...have I missed something, a sex change maybe lol lol lol Are you sure the lake hold tench? There are several ways of fishing for tench, most common one is the lift method with a lobworm or casters or sweetcorn. Try to mix some molasses in with your groundbait, Tench have a sweet 'tooth' Sir Claudia __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving

Re: 6 perch tonight on curry maggots Well, I'm no expert in tench fishing, or fishing in general come to think of it lol ok, let me share my wee bit of knowledge I have of Tench. Time of day: dusk and dawn, you hardly find any Tench feeding during bright sunny days. Watercraft: Look for small(ish) feeding bubbles, clear spots in the weed, some people go to the extend to rake weedy silty bottoms, which disturbs the natural food and lures tench in to the raked area. Hook bait: lobworm, casters, sweetcorn even maggots, bread (I dunk some bread in to honey and squeeze it on to the hook) negative side of this is that you have to re-bait more often, due to the bread coming off fairly quick. Groundbait: Get a good groundbait for Tench, like sensors, a lot of people mix bread crumbs in to it, (I did too so far) but an experienced angler told me not too, as bread crumbs swell up and fills the fish up too quick. Yo want to avoid over feeding with groundbait, you only want to keep them interested in your swim. Rigs: When fishing the float, set it up over depth so you will register a lift bite, the float will rise out of the water, rather then going under. Tench don't like resistance. If legering, use a running rig, again less resistance then a bolt rig. I caught Tench fishing this method, baiting an area up only with sweetcorn, little but often, artificial popped up sweetcorn (at a silty/weedy bottom). Hope this will help you a bit. Good luck in your hunt __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving

Re: 6 perch tonight on curry maggots Ok no probs, first of all you will have to plumb the depth of your swim and let's say it's 4 feet deep, normally you would set your float (if fishing right at the bottom) that your hook and bait just touch the bottom, so that the tip of your float just shows. Fishing over depth however you will set your rig up a few more inches then the original depth, say about 2-3 inches, you will have to put a small shot 2-3 inch above your hook. Your float will sit higher in the water and if a fish takes the bite, it will lift the weight of the shot (above your hook ), hence the float will pop out of the water. A lift bite sorry I'm not very good in explaining, I will try to dig out a diagram for you tomorrow, getting a little tired. __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving
