As I was expecting an early finish at work on Monday, I'd already loaded my fishing kit in the car. So it was back to the yard by 2pm, unload the truck & head off to Crockerton by 3pm. My arrival at the bankside coincided with a big black raincloud & the rain started to fall . No problem, Good job i'd packed my 50" Brolly. Got out the Brolly (Bought new last year after my 20 year old one was destroyed by a gale) Opened it up, only to have it snap off by the tilt mechanism. "Remind me never to buy any tackle from Keenets ever again. It's rubbish." That left me fishing in a leaky top that was once waterproof & a soggy pair of shorts... And the rain just got harder. However, I was determined to fish on & try for my target species, Tench. I took Bananna Steve's advice & set up in peg 2. Diced up some Luncheon meat in tiny cubes & set up a pole with 6lb line straight through to a size 14 barbless hook. I loosefed a few bits of meat about 7m out in around 5ft of water & lowered my baited hook over it. Immediately, the float sailed away & I pulled in a cracking roach of about a pound. This set the pattern for the evening. The harder it rained, the harder the fish fed. I was getting a fish a chuck. After about an hour or so I hooked into something that pulled somewhat more elastic out of my pole than the average roach & after a hard fight I pulled a nice tench towards the net. That's some more points for the Moonrakers I thought, just as it flipped it's tail & the hook came out... . Never mind, bait up & try again. A few more Roach & then something else that made the elastic sing. This one was fighting like mad & I thought it was probably a carp. However it eventually broke surface & I saw that it was another good Tench. Carefully I pulled it towards me & this time managed to slip the net beneath it. Target achieved. I fished on for another hour & the roach just kept comming. I did manage one more slightly smaller male tench, but eventually the rain got the better of me. I'd fished for three hours, finished with a cracking net of fish & some bonus species hunt points, although I did get slightly damp (Soaked to the skin actually)..... ![]() ![]() __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org

Re: A wet evening at Crockerton.... Great net of fish there, I had a committee meeting that night, or would have popped down myself. Corn can work wonders there. Biggest tench I've seen on the bank is 6.8.0, now I'd like one of those.

Re: A wet evening at Crockerton.... Not sure what number elastic it was Claudia. It's some fairly heavy stuff that i'd set up for Carp fishing at Clivey pond. The up-side is that it deals well with the larger fish. The downside is that it tends to bounce a few of the smaller fish off when using barbless hooks. __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org
