Evenings at Higher Farm

I've had a couple of evenings at this place, nr Shepton Montague. Its a series of three lakes, one about 1/2 mile from the others. Of the too 'top' lakes, they have proper names, but I can find the flyer about the fishery.

My fishing friend, and born again angler JP had been here before, and reccemended sweetcorn as a hook bait. We started on platat the west soide of the lake, so as to avoid the sun in eyes, but there was quite anasty wind blowing whichg dropped the comfort and air temp down, so we mooved to the south bank, which was much more plesant.

I set up two rods, my little 6' spiing rod, which needed to be properly christened, it had only had a few rudd and roach from Crockerton lake; with a simple running lead and double corn on a 10 hook. I used on of my fav rods, a hand built 'Sussex' rod, made in the 80's, and as lovely to handle as ever. This went with an old centre pin, loaded with 6lb line. A 3 aaa waggler with a no 6 about 8" from the hook. Hook length was 4lb maxima and 1 grain of corn on a 12 hook finnished things off.

I missed a bit after about 20 mins, I was watching the swallows out doing the Red Arrows for aerobactic skill, so thats acceptable. I recast and fed a little bit of hemp.
A bit followed a few minutes later, and the old rod arched over so smoothly you'd think there were no joints in it. after quitea struggle a lovely 7lb common came in, sadly there was an old woiuld on its head, made me think that some fool had dropped it!

No moer bites came on the float as the light began to fade, a group of lad wandered up to the top lake, and made a bit of noise as they set up nfor a nigts carp hauling, playing with bite alrms, ( a crime in my book).
I had two fish as the light faded on the spinning rod, a comon of 5 lb and a 9.8 fish as the for going to the pub came.

Please excuse the pose, just realised that it does look a bit silly, but the smile was genuine.
