Latest Video and Another Skimmer Bonanza 13-05-08

Video can be seen here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ7ohZukzyY

Take a nice sunny day in May, a red hot swim on the Dane river just out side of Klaipeda, add some quality Skimmers, sprinkle in a few good Roach and leave to simmer.

Just a little less than a week after a bonanza of skimmers at the swim I know as sunken tree, I returned ready for more and was not to be disappointed.

We still have had no rain but the river seems to have found its lowest level as the water line remains in the same place as my last visit, allowing me again to set up on the dried mud flat that would normally be the river margin.

I knew when starting this session that there would be a few fish less than last time because my intention was to film another short clip for Youtube and this actually takes a lot more time than the quality and length of the resulting video might ever suggest.

I started the session with a simple ledger rig baited with worm cast to the end of my swim. I then set up a stick float, set to bottom, size 18 hook, 2LB line baited with maggot died yellow with tooti fruiti flavoring with the intention of trotting through from right to left.

At first the fish came slow and mainly consisted of small Bleak and Roach although the occasional nice Skimmer did show giving me heart that there would be better to come later. The ledger meanwhile produce only small Perch and after a couple of hours I decided to take it out so to concentrate on the one rod.

The decision seemed to be rewarded almost instantly with the stamp of fish improving, with skimmers coming more regularly to a weight of around 1LB 4oz.

At 8.15pm, a little short of 5 hours after starting, I decided to call it a day with 125 fish including Skimmers, some nice Roach, Bleak and Perch. A great day’s sport and some reasonable, although not brilliant, video clips to boot.

Looks a wonderful place to fish, does the water hold any pike?

Well done on bagging up WA.

Re: Latest Video and Another Skimmer Bonanza 13-05-08

Thanks guys :)

John, plenty of Pike in the Dane, I lost a double from near that spot late last year but have only managed jacks since.

The area is great for predators in general, they do say the Pike and Zander even leave the Curonian Lagoon and venture into the Baltic although personally I have never seen this. We can boast some of the best Zander sport around in the Curonian Lagoon :)
