Cobbleacre charity match, 9th, 10th 11th May

I arrived at Cobbleacre at about 4:30 to see the place full of people and cars, everyone ready for their matches and eager to get fishing. When everyone had arrived the fishery manager drew the pegs and i was put on peg 11, not a bad peg but i wouldn't have chose to fish there.

Once all the pegs were allocated i went to my swim to start setting up as the match was to start in 40 minutes.6pm came and the horn went off and the rods went went in. It didn't get off to a great start as i lost 2 decent fish in the first couple of hours.I had no more bites that evening until around 1am when my right rod screamed off and i was into another fish, no where near as big as the fish i lost earlier but it was a start, a 1lb 10oz common. The rod was recast and i returned to the warmth of my bedchair.I had no more action for the rest of night so i managed to get a few hours kip.8am, got up from dream land and started making a coffee when all of a sudden "beeeeeep", another run on my right rod and another carp on the bank, not much bigger than the first, this one weighing in at 1lb 14oz.I sat in my bivvy for a few more biteless hours and decided to refine my rigs as i thought the bigger fish may be a bit wary, i went down to a 6lb hook link and size 10 hooks and made the hook links a lot longer. The rods went out again and 30 minutes later my left rod tore away and i was into a hard fighting fish, a good few minutes later and an 8lb 12oz mirror was on the bank.A hour passed and the lake was very quiet, i was taking some pictures of the the baby geese when my left rod screamed off again, i was into another hard fighting carp, this time it was slightly bigger, 9lb 8oz.

A couple of pictures of the geese:

4pm came round and the horn was sounded for all anglers to bring in their baits and make their was over to the office where the raffle was taking place, the raffle lasted about 45 minutes, i won 3 times, a 3 course dinner for 2, bottle of wine and 5 bags of dynamite baits boilies.Once the raffle ahd finished i made my way back to my swim and carried on fishing with immediate results, my left rod came up trumps again and a 9lb 6oz mirror was banked.

I had a couple of lost fish after that and then at around 9pm my left rod went off again i was determined to get this one in, and i did, a nice 8lb 8oz mirror carp.

I had no further action until 2am when my left rod went off yet again but unfortunately this fish snapped my off.The horn blew for a final time at 9am this morning and the match was over, i had landed 6 fish and lost 5, i think i had around 39lb of fish all together, not a winning score as i knew one lad had around 70lb of fish.
I came 5th overall, the winner got a 6 month ticket to fish Marios lake worth £150.
It was a great weekend with some great people and great weather, a big "thankyou" to Bob, the fishery manager for making it happen. The total amount raised was £1700.
Thanks for reading, Chris.

Yeah it is mate, put one bait on the entrance to the bay, picked up most of the fish from there.
