Crockerton, from a different swim

As my pal JP and I arrived, we met Bannana Steve on his way out, he toild us that thelake was being a bit off, but he had had a nice 14lb, and that Greenhart was on peg 8. We made our way round the lake, which looked nice, butr there we not as many small fish topping, well fed from the match the day before I guess.
I introduced myself to Greenhart, we had a quick chat, but another friend who he was trying to entice back into fishing also arrieved, plus I was eager to get to the swim I wanted, so I scuttled off.
JP went into no 10, opposite the island, and I droppped myself into no 11.
The fishing was slow, even for the small stuff. Normally there are many eager little roach and rudd waiting to snaffle up any maggies that go in. I set up a waggler with maggot and my favourite rod, a Shakespeare Sigma Wand, beautifully light, with a worm, hoping to get some of the perch, which can get to a very healthy size in the lake. A few taps on the wand, but nothing worth acting on for about 20 mins, then I had a 10 skimmer, nice fish, just wish they could give something of a fight. I missed a bite on the waggler, then the tip juddered 'round, the moment I picke dup the rod, I knew it was no skimmer, the kick it gave revealed it to be a carp, and I have to confess I was a little worried, worried that I was too light to get it in, but that rod had dealt with an 11lb from Berkley lake, so it had the back bone, but Berkley is openn, with very few snags.
After some fun and games, I managed to slide it into the net, I guess the weight to be around 7.8.0. JP popped round to see the beast, unlike to long and lean fish we catch in Berkley, which are either 100% wildie, or common, this was a tubby fish, quite a gut, I should make any rude comments, I've developed one of my own in the last few years.
I had a few more skimmers before hooking a mirror, around the same weight, but harder fighting, but all carp fight like deamons in Crockerton. I heard Greenheart get some maction, and JP managed a new PB tench, as well as a couple of bream.
Not much fun on the small fish as normal, but the rod bending power of those carp has to be experienced.
Here's JP playing on of his tench.

Thumbs up Re: Crockerton, from a different swim

Great read Matt & well done on catching a few. I can vouch for the old Sigma Wand rods, as I still use one myself. It's accounted for a few good fish over the years.
