Thumbs up Crockerton, the report....

Having spent £35 of my hard earned cash on a season ticket for a local lake at Crockerton near Warminster, I decided that I should go & see if it had been money well spent....
I arranged to meet Bananna Steve, the club chairman (Who talked me around to parting with my money) on bank holiday monday. I arrived at the waterside at around 7am, selected what looked like a nice peg & set up my Carp rods.

Steve arrived just as I was getting sorted & set up in the next peg....

Steve trying to blend in with the bankside vegitation..

Things were not looking too promising, as most of the other pegs were occupied by other anglers & there had been a match fished there the day before. This meant the resident fish had probably been well fed.
I set up two carp rods, one baited with a boilie & the other altenating with sweetcorn & luncheon meat. I was hoping for a Tench or Common carp as these were species that I needed for the Forum species hunt. Steve was fishing two Barbel rods baited with luncheon meat & fishing tight to an island. First blood went to Steve, who hooked a nice Bronze Bream. This was followed soon after with a foul hooked Skimmer Bream. I was only getting the odd bleep on my indicators as a fish swam into the line. Then Steve tried fishing tight under a bush close to his rod tip & was rewarded almost immediately with a good bite. Something was putting a good bend in his Barbel rod....

After an epic struggle, a good Ghost Carp eventually came to the surface....

A cracking looking 14lb fish....

I still could not get a touch. I tried every bait that I could think of.....

I covered every part of the water in front of me, but nothing worked.
At around 5pm Steve decided to call it a day. I decided to fish on in the for another hour or so.
Shortly after Steve left, another angler came up for a chat & introduced himself as Fullcreel, another Forum member who I had not met before. He had fished the water before & gave me a few usefull tips. Nice meeting you mate...
Not long after,I noticed some movement in the bushes either side of me, so I baited both rods with Luncheon meat & poked the bait right into the overhanging branches about a rod length out. At 6pm precisely, & just about as I was going to give up, I got a screaming bite on one of my alarms & struck into a hard fighting Mirror Carp of around 7lb....

The bites then came thick & fast. The fish were real hit & run merchants & all I could do was pick up the rod & hold on tight. I had a couple of hooks straightened completely & lost several fish in the bushes. They certainly knew how to shed a hook....
However I did manage to hold & land a nice Common Carp of just over 10lb to achieve one of my target species & gain anouher 1.5 points for the Moonrakers....

Was my season ticket good value?.... Definately, Cheers Steve.....

Re: Crockerton, the report....

Well done, some nice looking carp there.

Looks like a well kept and good venue. I used to fish a venue around there somewhere which was (is?) part of the Longleat estate (or was at least managed by them). We used to call it Crockerton but only because it was in the general area. Is it one and the same? or am talking a load of ...........
