Re: A Rough Guide to Canal fishing.

If you pop into the tackle shop in Devizes to get a day ticket, the owner will give you good directions, he knows the stretch quite well, it is the Allington bend, near All Cannings. The local anglers call in tench corner, LOL.

Cheers, I will do that, whats the name of the shop in Devizes? I got my ticket for the Stair case from the Spa just up from the Bridge over the Canal.

Bernie's Bait & Tackle, Devizes

it is in Snuff Street, just off the market place, also known as the dezives angling centre I think, seem to remember the name is different to what it said on the DAA website

Re: A Rough Guide to Canal fishing.

Had quick look on google maps, looks good. Wide towpaths and hopefully less people and cyclists! I know they have a right to be there but there should a speed limit!

Re: A Rough Guide to Canal fishing.

Don't be fooled, there are dog walkers, cyclist and a lot of barges, specially in the summer time or bank holiday weekends....but you don't have to fish your pole at full length 7 Metres should be fine, unless you want to fish under some overhanging trees on the other side of the bank.

7 metres will put you half way, in to the deeper water about 5-6 feet, 9-11 Metre in to the shallower bit around 4-5 feet.

Just remember, Barges have priority, so the best time to fish the pole there would be first light or towards the end of the day. Nightmare during the day, you would be forever shipping in and out.

Re: A Rough Guide to Canal fishing.

No problem, glad to be of assistance, there are plenty of good venues here in the Wilts area, just keep your eyes open and read the forum, we have a few Wilts anglers on here and we do meet up for a few mini forum meets to fish together.

Anyone is welcome to join us

Re: A Rough Guide to Canal fishing.

That sounds like a plan! Would good to meet a few local anglers. Right I need to book some time off so I can do some fishing!
