Deja Vu - but not boring!

Once more I pointed the trusty Modeo in the general direction of the A3 and headed south for the 15 minute drive to Marsh Farm! I know I'm very predictable at the moment but those golden hued crucians are a hell of a magnet (and so are the specimen tench!).

It looked like a good day as I arrived at about 8:15pm with a cloudy and overcast sky and gentle wind. Ticket purchased (£5 - a bargain ), I headed for Harris Lake in the general direction of my tench exploits of last weekend. As I was walking down the bank, I witnessed a superb 3lb 11oz crucian being weighed and photographed and spoke to one of the bailiffs who reported that a 4lb 02oz crucian had been recorded yesterday (just 8oz off the national record!). It all looked rather promising

Started fishing at about 9am full of confidence and anticipation. 3 hours later came the first bite! As per normal, I missed it but resolved to concentrate a bit harder............missed several more!

Eventually connected with a gentle "lift" of the float and a big golden flank rolled across the surface....that's the last I saw of what seemed to be a big crucian as it then threw the hook!

At about 2:30pm I had a series of very "finnicky" bites which yelled "CRUCIAN" at me, but I struggled to connect. When I eventually did hit one, it turned out to be a rudd of about 8oz. Several more followed and just as I was beginning to think it was all rudd, the elastic stretched out and I was into something much bigger. This turned out to be one of my targets and as the crucian slid into the net I was convinced it was "over 3lb". But the scales said 2lb 15oz! A very good fish and an equal of the one caught a couple of trips ago. Photographed and safely returned, out I went again, and the float dipped...connected again (shock, horror) and another crucian. This one looked bigger but guess what...the scales said 2lb 15oz again. That's three crucians all 2lb 15oz! Beautiful fish and I'm not disappointed.....well maybe a bit... but that's being greedy:

I then missed a few more bites and "bounced" one decent fish but things went really quiet. I fished on until about 7:30pm when I lost a decent tench as it broke the .09 hooklength and I decided enough is enough and anyway, the Chinese Takeaway and local Off Licence were beckoning!

Guess what....I will return!

Re: Deja Vu - but not boring!

Sounds like you had a good day out, but I think it is time we took you out to stand on a windswept beach at 1 in the morning waiting for that first bite.

You need a bit of catching aversion therapy!

What, two fish in 5 mins and then nothing for a total of 10+ hours (not counting a few small rudd), that was a hard day but the results were more than worth it

Anyway, set the date(s)..let's see just how easy this sea stuff really is...

Re: Deja Vu - but not boring!

Not fishing today....but playing around with some software..

Here are the three different crucian carp, all from Marsh Farm (all from the same swim), all weighing in at 2lb 15oz. My scales must be broken!
