| An Afternoon at my Club Lake I fancied fishing this week at my local Club Lake, so I booked Friday afternoon off and went fishing. I love fishing my club lake and I have had some good catches over the years, so my confidence is always high. I arrived at the lake at 3:00pm to find another angler fishing in peg one, I didn’t want to walk to far and thought it would be unfair to plonk myself down next to the guy, so I choose peg 3. ![]() I decided that I would fish the pole and use my top set with white hydro, which is the equivalent of 8-10 elastic. I started fishing at 10mtrs with a depth of 9ft I feed maggot and my favourite bait for Crockerton small pieces of Bacon Grill from our favourite shop “Lidl” After an hour I had only one fish, a small Silver Bream {1.5points in the bag} Not understanding why the fish were not biting I watch the other angler for a while, he was catching good skimmers and roach and he had a nice Tench as well. ![]() I found out that he name was Mack and had recently join the club. However what I noticed was that he was fishing in the shallower water. Inspired by Mack, I came in to 6mtrs and re-plumed the depth at 6ft, and re-feed the swim, with in 10 mins I had 3 good size skimmers. As the day progressed I had a good stamp of fish including two nice Tench. ![]() At 6:00pm just as the news came on the radio, I hooked into a lump, out went the elastic and all the pole sections to 14.5 mtrs. 45mins later I landed the fish a lovely fully scaled mirror that weighed in at 11lb 12ozs. ![]() I think the fish was as knacked as I was at the end of the fight, but it goes to prove if you take your time and play the fish, you can land big fish on light tackle. I stayed on until 7:15pm I had to listen to the Archers before I packed up. I caught a few more fish before I packed up. ![]() ![]() As I packed up I decided to weigh the fish in and with the Carp of 11lb 12oz my total weight was just shy of 29lb. A good afternoons fishing for which I enjoyed myself __________________ Born to fish made to work |
