A Day at Lake Nailors

With a cold North easterly to Easterly wind blowing it was not going to be an easy day.
Taking a walk to peg 11 about halfway down the lake I set up a carp rod on small sweetcorn boilie and a quivertip rod on maggot feeder.
For the first 4 hours I had nothing, not a touch or a hassled maggot, it seemed I had picked a swim void of fish, the two anglers to my left were in a similar state, not action, whilst the first five pegs seemed to be doing better, with small silvers and small carp appearing.

About 12-30 I switched to a method feeder and a 3 inch hooklink with a large strawberry boilie, within 10 minutes, just as I had poured a cup of coffee, this rod started to twitch and go and a full run developed. I had a reasonable carp on, it was pulling really well, and with a small crowd that had appeared to see what was happening I played a carp to the bank, in the water it looked and felt like a really good fish, the tail swirls were good and strong, and when it dived deep it took line, but bringing it to the bank it was a long and lean fish with a massive tail.

The fish looked excellent, even had a hint of ghost about it with it's almost blue hint around the eyes, but only tipped the scales at 6 1/2 lb, in top condition I think this would have been a double. It was the largest fish of the day on the lake from 14 anglers.

That was it for me for the rest of the day, the part of the lake we were in had been very lightly fished and did not seem to have feeding fish in it, the main action was near to peg one where bait has been going in regularly for the past few months.

Re: A Day at Lake Nailors

Nice carp mate. But I do have to ask the question...

Do you honestly think the fish took the bait as a result of this.

Or as a result of this:

I think the same principal applies to taking a leak, lighting a ciggie, talking on a mobile...... Maybe we could harness this "law of sod" somehow???
