Well! That Was Hard Work...But Fun!!

Decided to go back to Marsh Farm today in the hope of finding a crucian carp or two. Hadn't bargained on the weather being so wet, cold and solid (hailstones yet again ). At times the wind was gusting very hard indeed and throughout the afternoon I had several sessions of "sod the pole and lets just hang on to the brolly". There were also some very calm sunny periods and it almost looked like Spring.

Either way the fish were not really in any mood to cooperate and I had to fine down to a #22 hook and single maggot to get a bite. Although few and far between, the bites were very delicate and I was convinced crucians were responsible but I just couldn't connect with them . It was challenging fishing and I really enjoyed it. I was convinced fish were there and had to concentrate hard to fish it properly. After 3 hours I had just 5 bites and missed them all. Eventually I connected with one but only succeeded in pulling out of what felt like a reasonable fish .

But then I did connect with the next bite and the #6 elastic stretched out very satisfactorily. I was beginning to think I had hooked a reasonable tench when a very golden flank rolled across the surface. It was a crucian and turned out to be 2lb 04oz, not one of the Marsh Farm "specials" (that go 4lb+) but a specimen crucian in anyones language!

I felt much better after that!

I still missed more bites but did land one other crucian of 2lb 01oz and a nice little tench:

I fished on until about 7pm but there were no more signs of fish apart from a few small rudd and perch which seemed to move in as the evening approached. A really hard session but I was well pleased with the results (and another species ticked off in the "hunt").

They're getting harder to find and a few of the missing ones will probably have to wait until the summer!

Anyway, I'm just waiting for the weather to improve, then I'll get you to take me to the beach, pier, quay, boat or whatever it is you strange people do! You can then be the Master (or should that be Mistress!).

Mistress is fine

The whip is to fish in the margin, before anyone gets silly ideas lol.

I'm waiting on the weather to improve too, fishing is pretty hard with the continues change of it.

Why don't you join us on the smutt meet at Selsey beach on the 21st of June (happens to be my b/day at the same day too )

Well done Neil, it was hard conditions to fish yesterday, I think we need a spell of settled weather to get the fish to play.
