| Re: weekend Dan, One of the best ways to get a personal best on a carp water is to increase the size of your bait. You will get less bites but the fish you catch wil be larger. For example a few years ago we used to fish a lake near York which had thousands of smal carp up to around a pound. Great fun...and it was easy to get 40 or 50 of them in a day. One day a guy fishing the other bank landed three doubles in one day and did not get a single small carp. A quick walk round and we had the answer....he was cutting a tin of luncheon meat into four and using the pieces as hook bait. The small carp simply could not get baits that size into their mouths! Our next trip saw us armed with suitable baits and the result was two personal bests in one day...a 10lb 2oz common and a mirror of 12lb 7oz. I still have the photo's somewhere :) A word of caution though...this wont work if the lake does not contain bigger fish than you have already caught so make sure the big fish are in the water or you'll just spend a day wasting your time  Dave |
