A Lot Of Rusty Pole Work But Some More Points!

I've been working too many weekends of late (don't like Bank Holidays ) but it does mean a couple of weekdays off instead .

So today I ventured out to the home of near record breaking crucian carp, Marsh Farm near Godalming. It's a bit early for the crucians to show up but I thought I'd give it a go as it's less than 20 miles away. I decided to fish the pole to hopefully get the presentation as fine and delicate as possible and also use a small pole cup to get small amounts of feed into a precise area.

Within 30 minutes of starting I had a very definate bite which saw the #6 elastic stretching across the lake! I think it was a fair sized tench, but who knows! At least there were fish about!

Nothing else happened for quite a while but eventually the float dipped again and I netted a perfect little roach of around 12oz:

As the afternoon progressed, I had several more of a similar size with perhaps the best nudging 1lb. I was enjoying the session and slowly getting the rustiness out of my pole technique (definately need a bit more practice!).

I was regularly netting roach and the occassional perch when I lifted into something much bigger. Again the elastic started to extend out towards the far bank but this time it did it's job. A nice tench of about 3lbs slid into the net. Another 1.5 points for The Cat & Twiddle :

I then went on to land another 4 tench, all around the same size and all on double red maggot, plus a few more roach and perch, but sadly no crucians.

I intend to give Marsh Farm a few more trips when the weather warms up a bit. It's a good venue, well run and looked after and the fish appear to be in superb condition. I'd love to get into their crucians which exceed 4lbs .

Well done Neil.....sounds like you had a good days fishing there....I have been trying for some tench but they weren't showing for me yet, I thought it might be still too cold for them to feed.

I must get out to learn to fish the pole, got all the gear (although my pole is not a newst version, hence a little on the heavy side) but it'll do for practising.
