Smile Finally got out - Woodstock Pool Newport

After nearly 6 months without fishing and after the worst month of my life with my daughter being seriously ill the wife sent me out fishing on 14 March. There were so many places I fancied going but I settled on Woodstock Pool in Newport as it was close and maximised my fishing time and nearly always produces good catches.

I set up a feeder rod baited with pellet and cast as close as I dared to the island without getting tangled in the willows and the set about putting a float rod together only to miss a good bite on the feeder

The float set up was baited with maggot and started getting bites almost instantly which soon resulted in a roach of about 6oz, quickly followed by another and then a smaller one a few inches long. Things went a bit quiet then but whilst changing the bait on my feeder rod I heard my float rod drop down and thought I'd knocked it off. I went to retrieve it to find it on its way into the water and after a brief but fiesty fight I landed a little F1 carp of about a pound. Next I got a few tentative bites on the feeder and eventually got a positive bite which led to a goldfish of about 3/4lb (my first one). I picked up another 4 F1's on the float rod to about 1.5 - 2lb before catching my final fish, a small but perfect 3lb mirror carp.

All in all it was a lovely 4 hours away from recent stresses even though the initial bright weather turned to rain and the fish were just an extra bonus to be out in the fresh air enjoying life!

Re: Finally got out - Woodstock Pool Newport

Thanks both, she has recovered well from brain surgery but is likely to face up to 18 months of chemo and / or radio therapy so tough times ahead. Hopefully she'll be well enough to help me catch a few fish or crabs down in Devon next week!
