| A Very Long Long Long Long walk Friday evening I received a phone call from Greenheart {Ian} asking if fancied joining him on the River at Bradford upon Avon along the Barton Farm stretch of the River Avon spinning for Pike. Knowing that I need a pike for the species hunt, I jumped at the chance. Not in any rush to be there at first light and the fact I needed some basic spinning tackle I met Ian at his house at 9:00am. From there we travelled to Haines Angling to pick up a few items for the day. We arrived at the river at 9:30ish, the day was a little chilly and I thought to my self that I may get colder so the all in one thermal waterproof were put on. It was just my luck that the day got warmer and I started to overheat in the suit and by 12:00 the suit was off and into the bag. We walk the length of the Avon from Barton farm to Avoncliffe which I estimated being about 1 ½ miles we walked along the river bank casting our lures and spinners into the river at each swim leap froging each other as we walked. On two occasions Ian wondered past me grumbling that this turning into an expensive day, as in both times he lost his lures and wire trace. We reached Avoncliffe by around 13:30 and Ian suggested that we stop for lunch at the Pub, how could I refuse. As the fish weren’t biting then I was! After a lovely lunch, we decided that we would try the canal on the way back to the car. The canal here runs parallel above the river, so we ventured along the canal, as with the river the canal didn’t produce anything. I tell a lie, Ian did get caught in a sunken branch for which he did manage to retrieve, and as he retreived the tree branch in I noticed a tiny roach caught up with Ian’s Lure. As we walked along the canal Ian managed to loose a third Lure and at this point gave up. As we were neared the car area I too gave up. But at least we both blanked and neither of us got any points for the day, and stopped Ian over taking The Exe Factor in the species hunt. ![]() It was a great day and I enjoyed the walk along the river and the canal __________________ Born to fish made to work |

| Re: A Very Long Long Long Long walk As Steve said, it was an expensive day on tackle. I managed to lose one Rapala, two Shads & three steel traces... Conditions looked ideal, but neither of us had so much as a follow. The only predator that I saw was a 3" perch chasing the somewhat stunned tiny roach that Steve mentions in his post. However A good pub lunch & good company still made it a very plesent day. __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
