Another South Texas fishing report

Howdy, boys!

Haven't stuck my head in lately-work happens, and we all understand that. Anyway, was able to get out yesterday and while it started slow it picked up late in the day. My buddy and I were fishing a small lake north of San Antonio, and the weather was just about perfect-cool, cloudy, and enough wind to make it interesting. It took us a while to figure out what the fish wanted, but once we did we boated 18 largemouth bass between us. All but 4 came on soft plastics, and the 4 that didn't I caught on a medium running crankbait. This lake is a dammed creek, and the dam has a lot of chunk rock or riprap on it. I threw the crankbait up next to the dam and got a solid hit. At first I wasn't sure how big it was, but when it started pulling drag I knew it was a good fish. After a short battle I boated this beauty:

She weighed about 7 pounds, and if I had caught her in late December-February she would have gone 8-9 pounds, because that is when these fish spawn, and when the big females are full of eggs it adds 1-2 pounds to them. Still it was a thrill to catch her(with largemouth or smallmouth bass the females are the bigger fish). Took the picture and she is still swimming in the lake. all in all it was a great day on the water!
