A Cold Day On The Upper Kennet

Went to the Upper Kennet near Newbury today, it was a cold start to the day, perhaps Winter is arriving at last!

The bright sun and clear skies quickly got rid of the frost but the fishing was hard. Did manage a couple of small grayling and the resident brown trout were quite obliging:

In the late afternoon I had a suprise when this decent bream came to the net from a swim only a couple of feet deep:

Quite a hard days fishing but the location and the fact that I wasn't at work more than made up for it.

Re: A Cold Day On The Upper Kennet

Well done Neil, so you have done the reccy, did you pre bait the pansy pool?

How do you reckon a small maggot feeder and a quivertip will do there, as that is my preferred tactics for the weekend?

See you Saturday.

Mike

Hi Mike, it was just me and another angler on the whole fishery yesterday. I bumped into him a couple of times throughout the day and he was concentrating on that exact method. He did catch but only brown trout!

What grayling I did get came from the faster shallower water rather than the slower paced stretches. I reckon most fish were in cover, close to rushes, trees and the like (it being very clear and bright), so I would say the mini feeder or straight lead should work well.

"Pansy Pool" is on the Denford Fishery and I'll be heading for that particular spot on Saturday.
