| Barbel from a lake? Maxine and I went fishing for the day yesterday,which is nothing unusual. We were both using ledgering set ups, bit of sweetcorn and a pellet. I had a hard hitting take after some time which turned out to be a barbel. How suprised was I, especially as we were on a fishery that we have fished many times. To make the day better, Maxine had a barbel too .....  Is it common to find these in commercials?     |

| Re: Barbel from a lake? Seems to be the latest "in" fish so a few more commercials are stocking them. Out of interest what sort of size and condition were they in, as they usually like fast water. Did they put up much of a fight? __________________ Life is understood looking backwards, but it must be lived forwards. |

| Re: Barbel from a lake? I catch them on my local commercial. They are not too big at the moment, between 1 - 2lb's but they fight a lot harder than the Carp! |

| Barbel in lakes Unfortunatly if the water gets a good hot summer and the oxygen goes down barbel will really struggle to survie. | Re: Barbel from a lake? I agree with markl813, barbel belong in rivers, as the 'boss' said, they struggle to survive in a lake at summer time, due to the lack of oxygen.  Re: Barbel from a lake? The Barbel we caught were only a pound to pond and a half and seemed to be in good condition ..... and certainly fought! We've had one from the same lake over a year ago but never caught one since so we're not sure where they hide! The one I landed decided to head straight for the snags under a tree ...... but didn't make it as I managed to stop it ...... then again, I was using a carp rod! I have to say, it was a suprise to land one as we never expected to see one yet alone two in the same session. Made a change though!  |
