Twiddler's Avon I joined "Twiddler" on the Hants Avon at Britford (near Salisbury) today and had a really good Autumn day out. It was a bit cold at 08:30: ![]() Our first attempts only produced hoards of ravenous minnows but once we'd moved downstream a bit I finally found a couple of nice roach and dace. They were then followed by a feisty chub of around 2.5lb: ![]() Things went a bit quiet after that but after a very useful chat with Stuart the River Keeper, we moved further downstream below a sluice gate and onto some shallows. First trot down I had a little grayling followed by a salmon par. Twiddler was the perfect host as she was allowing me to catch all the fish! I then had a beautifully marked brown trout which put up a very lively fight on the light gear: ![]() Twiddler's frustration came to an end when she joined in the fun with another spotted beauty: ![]() ![]() As the afternoon was fading fast, we made our way back upstream stopping off in the area where I caught the chub. Twiddler found a couple of nice roach but unfortunately lost a good sized one at the net: ![]() I tried to get all "artistic" with the camera just as the sun was setting: ![]() We also thought that if we put all our pennies together we might just buy this property: ![]() Thanks again Claudia for another fine day out. Great venue, great day of trotting with the centrepin and best of all, great company. I shall definately return to that stretch and will seriously consider buying a season ticket for next year . __________________ "I'm playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order" Eric Morcambe

Well done you two. Looks like you had a great time, even if it was a bit cold. I think that riverside property would make a great Forum clubhouse... ![]()

Re: Twiddler's Avon Great report and some superb pictures Neil. Saint ME? I can hear people laughing Thanks for coming down to fish my Avon with me, I had great fun, even though you caught All the fish Stuart the water bailiff was very friendly and helpful again, he also told us that he had stocked 150lb of roach in to the river the week before. Neil and I lost a good size Roach at the net as the fish just done loopy twist and managed to shed the hook. Never mind, I'll get them next time. A lovely days fishing, great company, some fish and a beautiful day it turned out to be. __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving
