| Tiddler bashing for species Hunt My lad was keen for a short session on the worcester/birmingham canal on saturday, fishing with maggots and worms for small fish. he is a long way from being bored with catching fish that only weigh an ounce or so as he's only 8 and it does the soul good to remember how much fun it can be to catch a few tiddlers. We fished Mostly close in to the side and fed a mixture of chopped worm and pinkies. Within a few minutes we had both caught some small perch then after about 20 mins I got my first gudgeon! ![]() sorry about the pic, taken on a camera phone but.... yeah... not got that for the species hunt!! My lad then caught a slightly nicer Perch of about 1/2lb. Next fish on the bank was a lovely little ruffe ![]() we then caught plenty of gudgeon and perch for the next couple of hours, and I was just about to think about packing up, when i spotted a little blob of orange edging out of the reeds toward our free offerings. i flicked a couple of maggots at it, and then swung my bait near it's nose and bingo my first ever goldfish!! obviously popped in the canal by someone who didn't want it...well it's done well to escape the herons..not to mention the pike and perch, so i put it back after a quick photo ![]() ..not a bad couple of hours fishing...the lad had a great time and i got 3 new species for the Saucy Minnows...HURRAH!! |
