A Whole weekend fishing

Hi, over the bank holiday I managed to go fishing every day witch incorporated two sessions, one on the river with Mike and Claudia, and the other involved a 48hr stint on my local lake.

Mike kindly invited me to a stretch of the Avon in Salisbury on very fast section of the river next to an old water pump station.

Needless to say it was very difficult to hold bottom and even though Mike had warned me to bring heavy weights and strong tackle, I always had it in the back of my mind, “Nah I will be fine” how wrong was I. {Sorry mike should listen to my elders }

With in the first five minutes of setting up at the crack of dawn I had a fantastic bite, only to have the fish take me straight into a snag, and that was that. With the speed of the run I could only assume that it was a Barbel. {One day I will land one and not loose it straight away} As the morning progressed I did manage a few fish, for which I can add to the species hunt, one Minnow, one Dace and finally a small Chub.

During the day we both had a visit from the local residents who decided that the scenery on our side of the bank wasn’t good enough for them and ambled across the river, I half expected John Wayne to turn up on a horse driving his cattle to Texas. :-). I told Mike that if he landed one it won’t count on the species hunt.

I also think that mike got feed-up with scenery as well as he wondered off to the other side. Seriously mike had spotted a small shoal of Chub under the tree and armed with bread Mike went over to see if he could catch one, but sadly he could not tempt one.

I left at 12:30ish as the day was getting very hot and with fishing on the Sunday for a couple of days I needed to my kit ready. I had a great day and even though I never had my Barbel I enjoyed my self, I will be back.

Sunday

I couldn’t start my 48 session until 3pm as there was a match on the lake until that point.
I decided I would fish on peg 14 amongst the trees.

After prating around for a couple of hours getting my self comfortable, I starting fishing at 7:30pm, my first job was to bait up my swim, I decided to feed fresh bollies{Strawberry} and I used one rig on the deck and one a pop-up both on strawberry Bollies. The first few hours went by with no runs, then at 10:00pm I had my first run, after playing the fish for a good ten minutes the hook pulled, the fish was less than 2 ft away from my net. This was the story for most of the weekend. I lost 5 good carp, no fault of my own it’s just the way fishing goes. However I did manage to land 5 carp all around the 7-8lb mark, and one nice common of 13lb 2ozs.

However, I did do the thing I really wanted to do and that was to relax and chill out.
So here looking forward to my next trip out.

Looks like a good weekend with plenty of fish from two contrasting venues. Nice pics - that pumphouse pool looks good!
