| Re: How can I explain that size don't matter Years ago when I was a kid an old fisherman imparted to me some wisdom that at the time I really didn't understand but as I grew up I began to understand what he meant. He told me, "you don't fish for fish-you fish for fishing". What he meant was size and numbers don't matter. What matters is the whole experience-getting your gear ready, heading to the water, watching the sun come up, the bend in the rod whey you get a hit-all of it. Even the one that got away. When I can impart that to a yougster I have the satisfaction that I did my part to pass it on down to the next generation. Tell them not to fish for fish, but to fish for fishing. Once it takes root it is a life long love affair. Or in my case an absolute obsession |
