| Yomping up the Medway Part 1 Species Hunt 2007 No 50 Just a short update tonight. Back on the grayling quest today, but received a bit of a setback – there had been a storm up on the Ashdown Forest during the night, and the water was a dark brown colour. Not a lot of extra flow, so it was still fishable, but it was impossible to see any fish. My usual method of fish location is to sit quietly by a swim and feed it – and not fish the swim immediately, but watch and see what fish are present. That was not an option today, but hey, I was there anyway, so might as well make the best of it. Covered about three miles of river, fishing likely looking swims – with the same result as last time – small chub, dace, roach, perch and gudgeon, but no grayling. Eventually I had walked up to the heavily overgrown trout stretch and came across this little chap. Even smaller than Certhia’s Rock Goby of Sunday, nevertheless it was species No 50 for the year – a humble minnow. ![]() Grayling location will have to wait until the water has cleared a bit . __________________ RNLI Governor Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |
