| Marking time on the Medway Looking for a suitable "Fiftieth Fish" for this years hunt, I thought grayling would be a good choice. So off to a well-known grayling swim on the Medway with lots of maggots and a waggler rod (its a shallow swim under the far bank) ![]() Got a maggot stream going, and the gear working nicely - away went the float, but it was a chub. ![]() That was the pattern for the next couple of hours. Many small-medium chub, interspersed with dace and the odd roach. Not a grayling in sight. It got worse - I tried two other known grayling swims and the pattern was the same. Lots of chub, a few dace, the occasional roach, and gudgeon if I fished too deep. Have thought about this - perhaps the floods of early summer have changed a few features. Looks like I shall have to adopt Twiddler's idea -"Travel light", cover a few miles of river, and relocate those grayling - they sure ain't where they used to be. __________________ RNLI Governor Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |

| Re: Marking time on the Medway True, but I really want to know where these Medway grayling have got to - they are not exactly common here, some swims hold them, similar-looking swims don't. If I can't find them I shall have to go foreign - to 'ampshire. ![]() __________________ RNLI Governor Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |
