| A quick fix on the Upper Medway Species Hunt 2007 No 48 Had some chores and errands to do this morning, the last one involving a trip to the tackle shop to re-stock on hooks and split shot, and get a couple of pints of maggots for a family fishing trip on Monday. So at 10.30 there was I with two pints of maggots, not expected home until lunchtime, and bless my soul, someone had left a trotting rod and a bag of tackle in the back of the Landie!…..and we still need minnow and chub for the hunt… So went home via the bridge over the Medway (only 7 miles out of my way) and somehow found myself looking at the pool below the run from which I had 20 dace and a few other fish a week or so back. ![]() Tackled up, and chucked a few maggots in. First trot down, a minnow-sized roach. Kept feeding the maggots, more roach, bleak-sized roach, gudgeon-sized roach, dace-sized roach and now things were really going well – started getting roach-sized roach ! Stepped up the maggot feeding, knowing the usual pattern if you feed this swim well, and yes! It felt like a chub-sized roach (I wish). However, it was just a chub, not a monster, but that’s one more off the list. ![]() … got home in time for lunch, and there are still enough maggots left for Monday’s expedition. __________________ RNLI Governor Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |

| Nice way to spend a couple of hours Vagabond & a few bonus fish too. I used to spend a lot of time fishing the Medway when I lived near Rochester. Usually the free water around Maidstone. Nice river. Come to think of it, that was the last time I caught a Ruffe.... ![]() __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
