| Charlies Lake, Kent 25-26th July 07 Hello peeps FishyPaul and I decided to do a 24 hour session at Charlie's Lake near Ashford in Kent. I haven't fished for months and this was Paul's first trip since France. 'This could be interesting' I thought as I drove down the M20. Paul was already there when I arrived at 1pm. It was good to see the old git again! After a quick set up (and a dash to the local shop for provisions) I was fishing! One rod was cast to an island with a boilie/pva bag and one in the margins with a halibut pellet. Nothing much happened until about 7pm when I got a take on the margin rod and to my surprise, a roach came to the net. It was about 1.5lbs and had taken a 20mm pellet Half an hour later I landed a hard fighting common carp of 7lbs 7oz which looked a little deformed. Trust me to land the bugger, it also took a halibut pellet. After dinner (a dubious pizza ), we settled in and cast out for the night. Lots of bleeps, but nothing substantial until Paul got a one-toner. I was waiting with the net when it broke free, with us both gutted. At 2am I got the screaming run and pulled into what was a good sized fish, but again it unhooked not far from the net Another run at 4am which unhooked and I was starting to get a bit cheesed off. While I was grabbing some sleep, Paul had re-baited his rods and cast out. Just before 6am he had a one-toner and after a good battle landed a common carp of 11lb 7oz, a beauty. I decided to change bait and tactics and went for a snowman setup on both rods and cast out. Breakfast was next with bacon sandwiches and sausages with coffee, courtesy of Paul. Just what I needed, slurp. Shortly after, Paul was into another good common carp, this time tipping the scales at 6lb 4oz. Just as he put it back, my island rod roared off and I had a tremendous battle with a mirror carp. It was real fighter and I was surprised when it only weighed 9lb 4oz. After a slow pack down I left at 11am to drive home and left Paul there to fish on. Well, he caught something else, but I'll leave it to him to explain that one and also to post the pics! A big thanks to Paul. It was great fun as always and it's a cracking lake. I'll be visiting it again very soon. Rob |

| Re: Charlies Lake, Kent 25-26th July 07 well it was nice to fish with rob again,we decided to fish in my back yard on a very prolific fishery near ashford i won't bore you all with the catch details as rob has already done that, i do have some pics though this is of base camp or as rob describes as ground zero ![]() rob got first blood with a lovely 1 1/2 pound roach on a 20mm halibut pellet,is it a forum record ? ![]() rob also drew first blood in the carp stakes with this 7lb 7oz fish which was a bit deformed, rob is good at catching runts ![]() after a long and rather sleepless night it was my turn with this long torpedo type common of 11lb 4oz ![]() i had a little 6 pounder soon after that and rob replied immeadiately with this lovely 9 lb 4 oz mirror, but if you look closely this one looks a little knobbly as well, you do catch them don't you rob ![]() this is where the action slowed down,by 11 rob had enough and slowly packed up,i intended to stay a while , by one o'clock or so the clouds looked threatening and i didn't want to put wet gear away i started packing up,i was just about to pick up my middle rod when it shot off, it gave me quite a battle for a while but eventually slipped the net under a nice catfish,it tipped the scales at 7 lb 2 oz a new pb for me, ![]() a nice way to finish off a super 36 hours, thanks rob i really enjoyed it 1 1/2 points for the cat please dan |
