| Had a GREAT day on a south Texas lake Saturday Howdy, boys! Haven't stuck my head in the door for a while-too many other things going on, so I thought I'd stop by now I have something to brag about  . After a month off the water-job changes will do that to you-I FINALLY got back out on the water. I met my usual partner in crime at a little lake north of San Antonio about 4:45 Saturday morning. This lake is an electrics only lake, meaning you can't use a gas engine on it. My boat has an electric motor we call a trolling motor which allows us to fish it. The lake has a chunk rock dam on the eastern edge so that is where we started. I threw a swimbait-a bait that looks like a swimming fish-for a while but no takers so switched to a soft stickbait called a Senko. First cast it started to feel heavy so I set the hook. Boated a largemouth bass about 14 inches long. Second cast-same thing. Third cast-same thing, except this one felt a little bigger. Pulled it out into open water and realized it was a LOT bigger. We played tug of war for a bit and finally I was able to reach down and lip this: (Didn't realize my eyes were closed until after I released the fish  )The scale showed it was right at 6 pounds, which is a good size in anybody's book. All told I landed 13 and my buddy caught 11 with his biggest being about 3 pounds. this one tied for the second biggest bass I have ever caught. I've got an 8 pounder hanging on the wall so now I just keep them long enough to photograph. The weather was great, the fish were biting-all in all a great day on the water!     |

Hopefully I'll get out this weekend, but Texas has been inundated with heavy rain-not a problem-and thunderstorms-BIG problem. When lightning starts flashing being the highest point anywhere around with a graphite lightning rod in your hands is not a place you want to be. That is the one time I won't fish-I may be a little-OK, maybe a lot-crazy but I ain't stupid |
