| Viaduct Fishery Somerton 2 July 2007 I've just got back from my hunt for a couple of new species for the South West Duo. I've mentioned this fishery to one or two people looking for somewhere to start a youngster off and avoid a blank. Best to give weekends a miss though. The Fishery is extremely well run with a new Lodge and tackle shop. I think they held a Fishamania heat here last year and it takes 100lb+ to win most matches here. ![]() The Fishery consists of 6 or 7 lakes, one of which is a specimen Carp lake. It's £7 a day for one rod and £9 for two. The Lodge opens at 8.30 am but you can start earlier by putting your money in one of the envelopes provided and posting it in the box. The fishery has separate Gents and Ladies toilets. Being a lazy old b***** I decided to fish the Lodge lake which, as the name suggests, is right in front of the Lodge. This is the view from my peg. ![]() I set up a Waggler rod, 4lb main line and 3lb hooklength. I fished a single grain of sweetcorn on a size 12 barbless and caught everything but the Carp I was looking for. After a couple of hours I switched to a quiver tip rod and a groundbait feeder but this time I used two grains of sweetcorn. That did the trick and I caught a few commons quite quickly. It was another couple of hours before I got a Mirror. ![]() ![]() Most of the Carp were in the 4lb to 6lb range but it was good sport and I managed the two more species I was looking for. Might give the sea a go tomorrow as the Rivers around me are still very high __________________ Rich "If a thing's worth doing it's worth doing to excess!" |
