| River Parrett 16 & 17 June 2007 Any number of things conspired to limit my opening day session. In the end I got down to the River for about an hour and a half late afternoon. As I was pressed for time I fished a stretch in the middle of Langport close to the Car Park. At least I maintained my record of a session on opening day no matter what. I had a good few small Roach and Skimmers and one nice Bream about 4lb forgot camera in rush to get out so no photo I'm afraid. Today was better. I was organised early and set off for a stretch of the River about a mile downstream of Langport. There were two other cars parked up by the sluice that lets the Parrett create an overflow channel but no sign of the anglers. I found a peg cut into 4 feet of stinging nettles and other vegetation and took a couple of pics. The first is looking downstream towards the lock about a mile away that separates the freshwater from the tidal stretch. The next is looking back upstream towards Langport. ![]() As you can see the Parrett is a typical lowland river. Its about 25 to 30 yards wide for most of this stretch and about 8 to 12 feet deep. There's very few straight lengths and plenty of wider bends. It holds some good Bream, Tench, Carp (hard to locate), Chub, Roach, Perch etc. I fished an open end feeder with caster, worm and sweetcorn as hookbaits. Typical brown crumb and Bream goundbait with my usual healthy dollop of mollases. I caught steadily all morning. Skimmers, Roach, Perch and a few Bream to about 3lb. This Perch was about the best and took a worm on the drop. ![]() This was typical of the better Bream. They came to sweetcorn and worm and caster cocktail (when the Perch didn't get there first). ![]() Bit of a disappointing opening day but more than made up for with a super day today. I've got some time off over the next three weeks so I'll let you know how things go. __________________ Rich "If a thing's worth doing it's worth doing to excess!" |

| Sounds like you've been enjoying yourself Richard. That's a nice looking Perch. I've never fished the Parret, although i've driven by it many times. Indeed I will be tomorrow as I have to drive my truck to illfracombe. I'll keep an eye out for you. __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
