Match anglers what a nightmare

It's been a hard week at work, so my work mate Matt and I decided to take a trip to Witherington farm for an afternoon quiet dabble.

We arrived around 3pm just to find a match was on (so we thought, turned out it was a pre-run for tomorrows match).

So we went over to our tench corner and soon our rods where set up. I decided to only fish one rod on a waggler, 4lb mainline, 2lb hook length and a size 18 hook.
Maggots and worm for bait, small feeder pellets, hempseed and some loose feed for ground bait.

Less than 10 mins and our swim was bubbling like a whirlpool again...well, they don't call it tench corner for nothing.

I must say, those match anglers don't know the meaning of concideration .....they were shouting from one swim to the other side of the lake and even worse, over to the other lake...mostly enjoying when you try to have a nice relaxing session.

Soon Matt and I were both into the tench.

One of Matts'

One of mine

The biggest Tench was caught by Matt 2lb 4oz

As that wasn't enough, he even managed to catch this beauty, a golden tench (jammy git)

Beside tench we caught bream, silver and one mirror carp each.

Please excuse me pulling a funny face, it was those Match anglers really getting up my nose, all we wanted was a few hours gentle and peaceful fishing.
(I got fed up and shouted out loud if they owned the lake, if not, would they mind to consider the other anglers on the lake...it worked they shut up lol)

We packed up around 8pm, the count was,
Matt: 8tench, I gold tench, 2 skimmers, 3 bream and 1 mirror carp
Myself: 5 tench, 4 skimmers, 2 bream and a mirror carp

Would have been a very enjoyable afternoon fishing, if there wasn't so much shouting going on, I'll take a shotgun next time

Thumbs up Re: Match anglers what a nightmare

Nice catch, report & pics Claudia. I won't comment on the match fishermen, as I used to do a lot of that myself. Have to get a meet going at Writhlington Farm. It looks a nice fishery.

Hi Twiddler, A really good catch well done , which lake where you fishing, it looks like Cottage? It is one of the best lakes down there.
How much are they charging to fish down there these days?

Nice session - surprised you had problems with the match anglers, generally the Beach Match guys are well behaved !
Nice photos - some nice looking fish - well done !

There weren't miss behaving, just bloody noisy!! I think there was no need to shout across the lake like they did when other anglers fishing around them.

It was the 3rd lake, I think it was cottage, not too sure though.
We paid £6, which I think is not bad at all.

I like Witherington because it's not far from my work, so it's great to have a few hours after work on a friday.....not a kind of bitealarm and 3lb T/C fishery though, more match lake type.

Saying that, there are a few double figure carp in the last lake I was told.
